Yeasted potato pancakes


The recipe of yeasted potato pancakes  comes from the Middle Vltava River. The dish was prepared mainly in areas where potatoes were grown a lot. It was served either as a main course at lunch or dinner.  Since it can be eaten in both hot and cold versions, it was also used a lot as an easily portable and storable snack – e.g. working on the field, garden and so on.


  • 1000 g potatoes
  • 500 g milk
  • 120 g lard
  • 2 pcs egg
  • 500 g coarse flour
  • 20 g salt
  • 10 g garlic
  • 1 g marjoram
  • 100 g yeast


  1. Peel the potatoes and grate them finely on a grater. Let it stand for a while, pour off the excess water and pour hot milk. Add flour eggs, salt, spices, garlic, yeast, mix all these additives in and pour on a baking tray greased with lard.
  2. Place in a preheated oven at 170 degrees and bake for approximately  30 minutes until the crust is golden.


In case of alternative preparation of this dish according to the latest dietary and gastronomic trends, it is possible, for example, to replace lard with butter or oil animal cow´s milk can be replaced with an alternative soy drink or unflavoured vegetable milk so that the original taste of the recipe is not disturbed.
